Zone Athetics Carnival: Congratulations! We came second behind Colo High School. There will be more information in the Info-Line in the next few weeks. Thanks to Matt Thomas and Michael White for their organisation.
Year 11 Mentor Program: Many families would be aware of our Year 11 Mentoring program. Organised by Karen Smith, it has begun in the most successful manner. We had our first meeting on Wednesday this week with both the mentors and the students. Both groups were deeply engaged in conversations and exchanging contact numbers and email addresses for the future.
Excellence Assembly: Kerrie Graham organised the excellence assembly this week for Years 11 and 12. In stage 6 there are about 320 students in total. We issued 220 certificates of excellence to 115 students. Congratulations to those students and especially congratulations to the proud parents.
Technology 1: Early one morning this week I was greeted by a father and a Year 12 student looking very distressed. They had had a break and enter the previous day and the student's laptop computer with all her work on it was stolen. Of course you would think that all the work should be backed up or at least printed. You would think. Is all your work backed up safely? The student was lucky because she did have hard copies of her work. She will not lose too much. But what if it was closer to the HSC or to a large assessment task due date?
Technology 2: A reminder to students in Year 9 about their laptops. The protective container is a bit tight in many cases and so all students are required to not lock the cases closed. A new case will be issued.
Technology 3: If you have a Facebook account or simialr social networking program please be very mindful of the level of security you have on it. With many predators on the net these days often innocent photographs posted on these sites can be used in the most innappropriate manner.
Subject Selection On Line? We're working on it.
P&C Air Conditioners: The P&C has organised a quote from Bing Lee to install and maintain 10 air conditioning units in the school. They will be installed during the next school holidays all being well. A special thanks to Brad Compton for all his work in liaising with the company. The P&C and the Canteen works hard to serve the school in any way it can. The cost of these units is about $35,000.00. The school is very appreciative of their efforts.
Carpet in Rooms: As part of the normal school maintenance program, we are having carpet replaced and installed in many classrooms. There might be some disruption to learning for a day or so but I'm sure everyone will appreciate fresh carpet in their rooms.
Web Page: this week we have been in contact with the web masters and have been able to make some changes. You will see a page headed "Letters and Forms". In future we will be able to place all excursion notes here so parents can quickly get another should the original be lost. There will be Illness and Misadventure forms here for students in Years 10, 11 and 12. We are looking to update the software that drives our web page. One of the new components will be an improved calendar. It will be more like MicroSoft Outlook or an iCal (Apple). You will be able to have an RSS feed for specific year groups. Attached to dates will be notes and excursion letters so again parents will be able to access all forms from home.
