Students Behaving Safely
As part of the school curriculum, we have recently had a meeting with some police officers from Castle Hill. At that meeting we discussed how we can get a message across to students as part of normal lessons regarding students behaving in a safe and responsible manner.
Belinda Laughton (School Liaison Officer) and Rob Paterson (Youth Liaison Officer) will take time to visit our Year 9 students and discuss issues that are directly related to their lives.
You would be aware of recent media (print and television) articles relating to young people (our children) and their social behaviour.
Issues that will be covered in the discussions are:
- Risk taking behaviours
- Cyber-bullying
- Sexting
- Alcohol
- Social Networking
- Inappropriate Behaviour, and
- Assaults.
It appears that the police share the concerns of the school when it comes to young people going to parties. When your son or daughter intends to go to a party, do you as a parent know who else might be there, when it will start, when it will finish? Have you as a parent contacted the parents where the party is being held? Do you know who will supervise the children at the party? Will there be alcohol at the party?
There is a web site recommended by the police. It is www.alcohol.gov.au Police recommend all parents view it and discuss issues that come out of it with your children.
Both Police Officers would welcome individual parents contacting them for assistance. As a parent you can also contact our school counsellors to discuss any social issues that would affect your children.
