This week I have some good news to share with you.
Eric Date our Agriculture teacher has been successful in gaining a Rotary award for Teaching Excellence. He will be issued with his award at a Rotary dinner on Wednesday March 31st. We have been very fortunate to achieve such an award for the third year in succession. It speaks wonders for our staff that each year we can nominate and have someone win such a prestigious award. This reminds us all about the quality of the teaching staff at Crestwood.
Eric was nominated for his outstanding work in a number of areas. He is responsible for our Boys' Education program in Stage 5. This is a group of young men who work around the school to make gardens etc. The next is for his work with the Support Unit. Under Eric's guidance, the farm has become far more user friendly for our disabled students from the Support Unit. Eric goes out of his way to promote the teaching of Agriculture to all students but especially the Support students. Lastly, he has developed a small but very incisive presentation on the Differentiated Curriculum. This is a technique that changes the teaching program to meet the needs of students within a class group. This recognises that not all students are at the same level of achievement or accomplishment at the same time. His work here with the Science faculty is worthy of merit.
On behalf of the school I would like to congratulate and thank Eric on all his work.
I would also like to draw to your attention two of our Drama students, Julian Kenworthy (Yr 12) and Kane Lippman (Yr 9). Both students have been selected to represent Australia in Canada in the National Theatre Sports Team. Kane has also been selected in the NSW team. This is a great accomplishment for the boys and a great recognition of all the work and time spent by the English and Drama teachers in coaching and developing them. Congratulations to both young men. I expect to see both participating in our Theatre Sports Evening later in the year and both will be appearing in our school musical this year.
We have also been participating in the Lion's Youth of the Year Awards. We have had two students - Julian Kenworthy and Saba Goudarzi attend different clubs. Julian attended the Kellyville Rotary meeting and Saba attended the Winston Hills Rotary meeting. Both conducted themselves with great maturity and demonstrated again why Crestwood is a great place to learn. The school is proud of our students and thank them for their participation. Thanks also to Mr Steve White who accompanied them on the two evenings.
