Gifted and Talented Innovation Project
On Friday September 11th, Crestwood High School had its second Gifted and Talented Innovation Project presentation.
Students in our 7T and 8T classes worked independently all year on projects of their own interest. Friday was the time when these projects could be shared. The celebration was held in our school auditorium with some 60 students from Kings Langley Public, 40 students from Crestwood Public and about 50 parents and family members in attendance to share in the celebration.
The Gifted and Talented Committee, led by Beaty Maricic, our HT Mathematics co-ordinated the day. I would like to ackowledge all the work they did in preparation for yesterday. Each student was assigned a mentor who was available to discuss the progress of the project and to offer any help should the students need it.
The projects ranged from active performances, multi media displays and static displays. Teachers all commented on the high quality of work found in the projects - it was an absolute credit to the students. The performances were excellent and diverse, with many hidden talents being brought to the fore. On top of the great work by the students the staff would like to complement the positive behaviour of all students who attended the celebration.
Some students said they found the process arduous but once they completed the project they were able to appreciate the philosophy behing the process. They said it was worth it when they saw the quality of work that was produced. I think most students said given the opportunity they would do this again.
The G&T day celebrated and emphasised the multi-cultural diversity that we enjoy at Crestwood High School. We are blessed by having a student population that understands the importance of hard work, that can recognise and congratulate excellence and is proud to be part of such a great school.
This project enables the school to fulfill two functions. Firstly we recognise the Gifted and Talented students in our Stage 4 (Year 7 and 8) classes. Remember that students who are enrolling at Crestwood in Year 7 are invited to apply for a placement in our 7T class. Places in this class and 8T are hotly disputed at times with many students who just miss out vying to prove they are worthy of a place in the class. The second aspect or function of this day is that it continues to build the strong linkages all secondary schools need between the primary partner schools. We have many programs that continue to build these linkages.
Congratulations again to all the students, thank you to the parents who have assisted the students, thank you to the teacher mentors who guided the students through their projects and lastly thank you to the Gifted and Talented Committee for all their work during the year, not only on this day.
