Building the Education Revolution: I have had a number of meetings recently with officals from the DET about the funding issues for this project. To say the ground changes from day to day (almost minute to minute) would be an accurate statement and might give you an idea of a frustrstration level that builds as schools are pressured to organise projects within a school within a short period of time.

However, I think I can now give some fairly solid information about our intentions. We have three main areas that we wish to address. They are:

1. A Power Upgrade: This would provide an increase in the amount of electricity the school has available to run an increased number of electrical deveices (ir-conditioners). This is an on-going project by the P&C. Funds obtained by the P&C through areas such as the canteen (up to $50,000.00 per annum) are used to purchase and instal more air-conditioners.

2. Refurbishment of the Hall: There are a number of parts to this section of the project. Firstly we will replace the old curtains on the stage. They are in serious need of replacement and funding is not readily available from the DET for this. Secondly, we need to upgrade (and improve) the quality of the stage lighting. Thirdly we will have the second set of steps leading onto the stage (on the Left hand side as you look at the stage) constructed. This was originally used as a lift but we have an alternate access for wheel chair bound students, staff and visitors.

3. SMART Boards: With the funds that remain (approximately $90,000.00) we propose to purchase about 12 smart boards. Smart boards are valued at about $8,000.00 each installed. The number of smart boards purchased will depend on the remaining funds from areas one anf two.

The bottom line from all of this is we need quotes ASAP (which we have) and the people we contract to do the work need to be able to complete the works within a relatively short period of time say 6 motnhs. I think we can do this knowing the companies we have been in contact with recently. The only problem might be the installation of SMART boards. But I would think the DET is aware of this and allowances will be made as many school will opt for this alternative.
