Waterwatch
Waterwatch is an interactive environmental awareness programs for kids, schools and communities. All students at Crestwood High School are involved in the Waterwatch program the in Year 9 Science Environmental Education Curriculum.
Students participate in
- testing water quality in Toongabbie Creek at Crestwood Reserve
- reporting visual pollution or abnormal readings to Baulkham Hills Shire Council and the Upper Parramatta Catchment Trust
- the Bug Survey with Crestwood Public School
- Schools Tree Day with Jasper Road Public School
- Environment Day with Matthew Pearce Public School
The program at Crestwood has been recognised by Baulkham Hills Shire Council and the Upper Parramatta Catchment Trust on a number of occasions, winning the following awards
- "Senior Educator" Award in 2002 and 2004 for Mrs Rita Kuksal, the coordinating teacher
- Platypus Award in 2002 and 2004. A prestigious award given to the most outstanding school in the Waterwatch program.
- Sustainable Schools Award organised by the Baulkham Hills Shire Council for World Environment Day
- Project Environment Competition organised by the Gould League of NSW to one of our Year 9 students in 2004
Our current project is the construction of an Outdoor Learning Area in the school\'s wetland for use by our students, surrounding primary schools and community groups.
