Fairy Tales: A Prose Fiction Unit for Stage 4
Texts:
- The Cinder Maid
- Beauty and the Beast
- Snow Night
- The Happy Prince
Goals for the Unit:
- Explore the cultural values of familiar and new fairy tales, especially gender roles.
- Explore the representations of love and family in fairy tales.
- Consider how and why violence is represented in children\'s stories.
- Compare and contrast female characters in texts.
- Compose a feature article.
- Research fairy tales from other countries.
- Give an oral presentation based on the research task.
- Reflect on the cultural significance of fairy tales in a learning journal.
Drama
All students study Drama in Stage 4. Drama is offered as an elective in Stage 5 and as an HSC subject in Stage 6.
The Drama courses incorporate
- improvisation
- play building a group performance
- elements of production including lighting, sound, sets, props, costumes and programs.
