It's all happening at Crestwood
New Staff
There will be a number of changes to our staff in 2010. These will be outlined in my weekly blog available from this page. In 2010 the school population will be over 1000 students. Because of this there will be additional staff to some faculties. We believe this is the optimum size for a school. It is big enough to allow a diverse curriculum without being too big for the students.
New Roll Marking Procedures
In 2010 we will be changing the way we mark student attendance. Instead of our Home Room period at the beginning of each day, the roll will be marked in period one classes. The names of absent students will be sent to the office during period one. Students who are late will still need to report to the office. We are endeavouring to have the rolls marked elctronically this year with a new student attendance and welfare package. We anticipate some teething issues with this. School still begins at 8.30am for period 1. We believe this will reduce the movement of students around the school and hence an additional disruption during the day.
New Technology:
Students in Year 9 will be issued with a Department of Education and Training laptop each year. Students in Year 10 this year (2010) will already have been issued with their laptop. It is anticipated current Year 9 students will be issued with their laptop by early March. As part of the Building the Education Revolution we have been able to purchase 12 Interactive white Boards (sometimes called Smart Boards). The new computers being issued and the IWB's present a significant change in the teaching and learning of students and by students.
The school has changed the management system for its network of computers. In 2010 instead of the computers being organised using a Novelle server and system, it will be served by Windows network server. Because of this, students will need to re-establish their passwords and login details. Information about this will be given to all students during the first week of school.
Students will also have access to our own school intranet (http://web2.crestwood-h.schools.nsw.edu.au/Welcome.html). Again they will need to have a login and password to access this. Once established students can access information from a home computer.
